Even drivers who have had the same vehicle and been with the same insurance company for a number of years can benefit from getting a new car insurance quote when it’s time to renew their policy. Changes that occur over time may open up new ways for them to save money on auto insurance.

Cars change and car insurance rates change too

Some older vehicles can get to a point where they cost more to insure than they are actually worth. When vehicles get to this point, carrying less insurance coverage can help lower costs. But car insurance policy owners might also find that their vehicle is less expensive to insure with another carrier.

Furthermore, if a driver gets a new vehicle or a used vehicle that is a more recent model than their current car, they may be able to save with a different insurer. Certain new vehicles may cost less to insure with one car insurance company than another because certain companies may offer discounts for safety features that others do not. A number of other factors may also contribute to comparatively lower rates.

The driver’s credit score change may help to get a new lower car insurance rate

Certain changes that occur with the driver may affect their auto insurance rates as well, prompting them to search for cheaper alternatives. These include a change in the driver’s credit score since they first bought their policy. If their current insurer heavily weights credit scores and has increased their premium, they may benefit from getting a new car insurance quote to find an insurer that weighs the score less.

Also, drivers who have recently started working from home or have become a stay-at-home parent are likely using their vehicles less. They may benefit from finding insurers that offer infrequent driver discounts, if their current insurer doesn’t.

Finally, changing family dynamics, such as children who have reached driving age, may require policyholders to switch to a car insurance company that makes it more affordable to have coverage for drivers under 25 listed in a new car insurance policy.

Switching insurers may not always be best

Getting a new car insurance quote is an essential part of the process. It would be in the driver’s best interest to perform extensive research in order to determine what insurers can offer them the best rates or to determine if switching is even worthwhile. Sometimes it’s not.

Some insurers offer loyalty discounts for staying with the company for a certain number of years. In addition, others also offer multi-policy discounts, which can kick in if the driver is insuring more than one car, or has a homeowners or other insurance policy with the same company.
