The Safest Driving Cities With The Lowest Car Insurance Quotes

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 32,000 fatalities result from car accidents in the United States every year.

However, some cities have been much safer than others across the country, which may result in lower auto insurance quotes in those areas. Earlier this year, Allstate unveiled its seventh annual America’s Best Drivers Report.

Allstate considered 200 of the largest cities in the United States and ranked the safest drivers based on collision frequency, naming Fort Collins, Colorado, the winner.

Mike Roche, executive vice president of Allstate, said that his organization’s yearly driver’s report was implemented to encourage safe driving. By publicizing auto rankings of major cities, Roche hopes to increase awareness of responsible driving and potentially reduce auto insurance quotes in the long run.

“We want to recognize the city of Fort Collins for again being the safest driving city in America, and we salute all of America’s safe drivers, who help make our communities better places to live, work and raise families,” said Roche.

For the second straight year, Allstate announced Fort Collins, Colorado as the safest driving city in the United States. Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkanut said in a statement that her city’s accolade is in large part due to responsible driving. She further mentioned that she’s proud to be the mayor of such law-abiding citizens.

Rounding out the top five were Boise, Idaho; Lincoln, Nebraska; Chandler, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama.

West Coast dominates

Four of the top five safest driving cities are located on the West Coast. Allstate spokesperson Kate Hollcraft told Forbes that it’s difficult to comprehend why most of the top five are West Coast cities. However she suggested that East Coast cities are generally more populated and experience a higher volume of traffic, leading to more accidents. She went on to say that the West Coast’s population and traffic are more widely dispersed.

Allstate further added a top ten list of the safest cities with more than 1,000,000 residents. Phoenix, San Diego, San Antonio, Houston and Chicago made the top five. Again, none of the top five cities are from the East Coast.

While Allstate is only one of many U.S. auto insurance agencies, their policies account for approximately 10 percent of the entire nation’s auto insurance quotes – making the company’s report a valuable source of information, according to the auto insurance agency.
