Need to lower you car insurance? Many states encourage drivers to take online driving courses that make them eligible for reduction in their auto insurance premiums.

The online driving course is basically a driving refresher course. Students log on the website, follow animated instructions, drive along virtual roads, and face critical driving situations to test their knowledge and skills.

After successfully completing the course, drivers get as much as 15% discount to lower your car insurance. Obviously, the rate may vary with different service providers. This discount generally last for three years, after which another course is needed to again qualify for a discount.

In some states these courses are offered for the purpose of ticket dismissal, point and
fine reduction, and other saving options apart from a cut off in premium rates. Each state needs to legislate to make these driving courses legal and valid. However, in the few states in which these courses are not available, insurance companies may offer a ”good driver” discount to customer who took and passed the course.

These online courses are mainly designed by private companies abiding by the guidelines set by the Department of motor Vehicles or Secretary of State Offices, to assure that the courses meet the standards.
These programs are extremely beneficial for those who cannot attend the conventional classroom programs due to their daily responsibilities. They teach good-defensive driving behavior, and are designed for drivers who haven’t taken any refresher courses over decades after getting their drivers’ licenses.
